BATTLEWORLD: DECIPHERING THE THEME PARK MAP OF THE POST-MARVEL UNIVERSE ( IV )

Following the map ....

13. NEW MARS

The home of Killraven and the War of the Worlds Martian tripods, and maybe some other pulpy sci-fi elements. Several Marvel comics in recent years have shown flashes of a future in which Marvel characters interact with tripods. Maybe this is where it happens?

14. CLASSIFIED

The second classified region sits nestled beside Utopolis, which doesn't offer many clues, and atop a cluster of pulpy and fantastical worlds. Maybe this is the Conan-inspired realm of Kulan Gath? But again, I've no ideas why Marvel would keep that a secret.

15. HIGHER AVALON

We thought this region might house the last of the Captain Britain Corps and the omniversal overseers now seeking new employment, and maybe the seeds of a rebuilt multiverse.
Of course, we had the wrong Captain Britain; this domain focuses on Faiza Hussain, the inheritor of the title in Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk's Captain Britain and MI:13. Now she's starring in Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders, by Al Ewing and Alan Davis, with a team that includes White Tiger, She-Hulk, Prowler (in a Spider-fied costume) and a young iron person named Kid Rescue.

16. ARACHNIA

Arachne is the second Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter, so we hoped this might be a reference to Spider-Gwen's reality. We were partly right. This is actually the Spider-Verse book, helpfully titled Spider-Verse, starring Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man: India, Spider-Girl, Spider-UK and Spider-Ham, and written by Mike Costa and drawn by Andre Aruajo.

PARADISE X, FULL 14 ISSUES LIMITED SERIES, MARVEL, 2.003.

We are proud to present the third and final installement in the "X" trilogy.

In the first installement, Earth X, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Thor, the Hulk and the X-Men discovered that their purpose - and the meaning of all super heroes and mutated people in the universe – was nothing more than to protect their host planet, in this case Earth, from outside invasion. They learned super heroes are merely biological antibodies to protect a growing embryo within the Earth. An embryo for the Celestial race: This is the way these Gods fought back – only to cause a terrible ecological imbalance, a rift at its core that in time would wipe out all life on the planet.

In the second installement, Universe X, Captain Marvel was reborn on Earth years after his death. But he also still claimed to walk in the realm of the unliving, where Earth's fallen champions still exist. Mar-Vell led a team of heroes in a quest for the greatest weapons of mass destruction on Earth, suggesting this would limit the destruction caused by the growing power struggle on the planet. But this was not the only reason. For his crusade on Earth only supported and armed a battle he fought in the realm of the fallen, a battle against Death herself. Those living champions who died in his collection of artifacts were added to the battle raging in this other realm. Mar-Vell led a charge against Death and killed her. But now that Death is dead, no one will ever die again. They may writhe in pain in hospitals because their bodies have been broken beyond repair, but they will not die. They will call out for an end to their suffering. They will cry out for peace but there will be no answer. Paradise will be denied them. Yes. Death is truly dead. Long live the living.

At the end of the third and final installement, Paradise X, the reader will notice that Mar-Vell remains physically alive after restoring death on our plane and when asked where he is going, he simply replies "Someplace better". Thus suggesting that breaking the unsaid rule of not bringing back the character in the medium is an unjust one.

"SECRET WARS" RESURRECTS A MUTANT NIGHTMARE IN "YEARS OF FUTURE PAST"

In the classic "Days of Future Past" storyline, the creative team of Chris Claremont and John Byrne illustrated just how important it was for the X-Men to change the attitudes and actions of those who fear and hate the Marvel Universe's mutant population. For two issues, readers found themselves transported to a dark, dystopian, possible future, where mutants and other superhumans were hunted, killed and imprisoned by giant Sentinel robots.

An adult Kitty Pryde kicked off the short-but-impactful arc by traveling back in time in an attempt to prevent her nightmarish future -- the then-distant 2013 -- from becoming a reality.

But what would have happened if time travel was never an option, forcing her instead to stay and fight to protect both her biological and extended family from extinction? Readers will get answers to this and more when "Years of Future Past" by writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Mike Norton, debuts in June. The "Secret Wars" series transports readers to the Sentinel Territories of the singular Battleworld the Marvel Multiverse has been reduced to.

DC COMICS DEBUTS NEW COSTUMES FOR SUPERMAN AND WONDER WOMAN

Aaron Kuder's "Action Comics" #41 cover
This June, Superman and Wonder Woman join Batman in entering DC Comics' new era with new looks.

Artist Aaron Kuder's cover for "Action Comics" #41 gives a clean look at Superman's new duds, a throwback to the outfit Clark sported in Grant Morrison/Rags Morales' run on the title in 2012. Additionally, our hero's fists are wrapped and bloodied, indicating that perhaps his current 24-hour frame of powerlessness and vulnerability isn't quite that short.

David Finch debuts Wonder Woman's look

Paulo Siqueira's cover for "Superman/Wonder Woman" #18 also show's Superman's new look, while debuting a new uniform for Wonder Woman that appears to be a significant departure from her classic costume.

Ardian Syaf illustrates a world's finest face off for "Batman/Superman" #21

GROOT SPROUTS A SOLO SERIES THIS JUNE

Groot #1 cover by Declan Shalvey
Everyone knows that Groot and Rocket Raccoon have one of the best friendships the universe, but what happens when they get separated? That’s the focus of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” writer Jeff Loveness and Disney Animation artist Brian Kesinger’s GROOT series kicking off in June!

Loveness makes his Marvel Comics debut this Wednesday with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN SPECIAL #1 and has a connection with the Wallcrawler, but like a lot of people he came to know the Monarch of Planet X from last summer’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” film.
Groot #1 preview art by Brian Kesigner

Groot will jump from teaming up with his pal Rocket to flying solo, no small feat for a man-thing of so few words.
As you might expect a being who only says “I am Groot,” gets into his fair share of trouble while trying to get from place to place.
The story might feature all kinds of aliens and actions, but at its heart.

WILDCATS FULL 28-ISSUES SERIES, WILDSTORM/ DC COMICS, 1.999-

After the first series cancellation, WildStorm, now an imprint of DC Comics, resurrected the Wildcats under a whole different premise - Wildcats dealt with the lives of the original members after the team's breakup following a botched mission during which team member Zealot apparently died. Scott Lobdell provided the writing for the initial seven issues as well as a Mosaic oneshot detailing the change in Lord Emp, with Travis Charest penciling most of them. New villains like Kenyan and CC Rendozo were featured as antagonists, but it was all dropped very quickly, with Charest leaving the monthly comic format to work on a French Metabarons graphic novel called Dreamshifters and Lobdell exiting a couple of issues later.

As Joe Casey and Sean Phillips took over Wildcats, they quickly dealt away with Kenyan while Void and Emp ended up having Spartan absorb their assets and powers, thus the book began a long spell featuring him aided by Ladytron and Grifter with Maul and Voodoo guest-starring and as well as new characters Noir, Agents Wax and Mohr of the National Park Service.

Warblade was featured very briefly, last time in the Wildcats 2000 annual that brought back the dead version Condition Red, killing Olympia. Casey and Phillips signaled the new Wildstorm - critically acclaimed but low on readers' radar. The heroes fought Samuel "Slaughterhouse" Smith (a superhuman serial killer whose grandfather had appeared in Team One: WildC.A.T.s) after which eventually Zealot returned.
